Derek Parker Royal is the founder of the Philip Roth Society as well as founding Executive Editor of its peer-reviewed journal, Philip Roth Studies. His essays on American literature and comics/graphic novels have appeared in over 30 different scholarly journals and book collections, and he is the guest editor of 8 special issues of academic journals. He is the editor of Philip Roth: New Perspectives on an American Author (Praeger, 2005), and the new book, Unfinalized Moments: Essays in the Development of Contemporary Jewish American Narrative, which will be published by Purdue University Press in December 2011. He is currently working on a monograph concerning Philip Roth, More Than Jewish Mischief: Narrating Identity in Philip Roth's Later Fiction; a handbook on American Pastoral (with Patrick Badonnel and Daniel Royot, published by Atlande); and two projects for the University Press of Mississippi: a book of interviews with the Hernandez Brothers, and a collection of essays on the topic of race, ethnicity, and American comics.
